The deepest point of this freshwater lake is about 18 meters on average. The lake’s water is extremely clear and clean, allowing visibility of the lakebed even at its deepest point.
The lake, which has tectonic formation characteristics, plays an active role in the development of the North Anatolian Fault Line. The excess water of the lake overflows into the Dirgene Stream, which also has clean and natural water. As the winter season approaches in the Abant region, the rapid drop in temperature causes the lake to freeze starting from the shores toward the center.
